Tokyo has many universities, junior colleges, and vocational schools. Many of Japan's most prestigious universities are in Tokyo, including University of Tokyo, Hitotsubashi University, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Waseda University, and Keio University.^[41] Some of the biggest national universities located in Tokyo are:

Publicly run kindergartens, elementary schools (years 1 through 6), and junior high schools (7 through 9) are operated by local wards or municipal offices. Public high schools in Tokyo are run by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Board of Education and are called "Metropolitan High Schools". As of the 2008-2009 school year, 1,040,750 students were enrolled in elementary and secondary schools in Washington, with 59,562 teachers employed to educate them.^[44] As of August 2009, there were 295 school districts in the state, serviced by nine educational service districts.^[45] Washington School Information Processing Cooperative (a non-profit, opt-in, State agency) provides information management systems for fiscal & human resources and student data. Elementary and secondary schools are under the jurisdiction of the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI), led by State School Superintendent Randy Dorn.^[46]

High school juniors and seniors in Washington have the option of utilizing the state's Running Start program. Initiated by the state legislature in 1990, the program allows students attend institutions of higher education at public expense, simultaneously earning high school and college credit.^[47]

The State also has several public arts focused high schools including Tacoma School of the Arts, Vancouver school of Arts and Academics, and The Center School. And a Science and Math based high school in Tacoma, Washington known as SAMI.

Mumbai - Education

Schools in Mumbai are either "municipal schools" (mostly one-teacher schools run by the BMC) or private schools (run by trusts or individuals), which in some cases receive financial aid from the government.^[291] The schools are affiliated either with the Maharashtra State Board (MSBSHSE), the all-India Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) or the Central Board for Secondary Education (CBSE) boards.^[292] Marathi or English is the usual language of instruction.^[293] The government run public schools lack many facilities, but are the only option for poorer residents who cannot afford the more expensive private schools.^[294]

Under the 10+2+3/4 plan, students complete ten years of schooling and then enroll for two years in Junior College, where they select one of three streams: arts, commerce, or science.^[295] This is followed by either a general degree course in a chosen field of study, or a professional degree course, such as law, engineering and medicine.^[296] Most colleges in the city are affiliated with the University of Mumbai, one of the largest universities in the world in terms of the number of graduates.^[297] The Indian Institute of Technology (Bombay),^[298] Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (VJTI),^[299] and University Institute of Chemical Technology (UICT),^[300] which are India's premier engineering and technology schools, and SNDT Women's University are the other autonomous universities in Mumbai.^[301] Mumbai is also home to National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE), Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies (JBIMS), S P Jain Institute of Management and Research and several other management schools.^[302] Government Law College and Sydenham College, respectively the oldest law and commerce colleges in India, are based in Mumbai.^[303][304] The Sir J. J. School of Art is Mumbai's oldest art institution.^[305]

Mumbai is home to two prominent research institutions: the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), and the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC).^[306] The BARC operates CIRUS, a 40 MW nuclear research reactor at their facility in Trombay.^[307]
